About the training
Full Deckhand pack includes all the training needed to ensure a confident start on yachts as a deckhand:
Week 1: STCW Basic Safety training
STCW Basic Safety, or STCW 95 - is the certification required for all seafarers wishing to join the maritime industry. The course lasts 5 days (Monday to Friday) and includes 4 obligatory modules as well as one extra module offered as a bonus to the students of Seascope France. Our STCW training is approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Week 2: RYA + Yacht Deckhand training
Day 1 & 2: RYA Powerboat Level 2
The RYA Powerboat Level 2 license allows its holder to drive a small boat (up to 10 meters), which can be a rib or a tender, legally in the Mediterranean Sea. The Powerboat Level 2 course covers the aspects of boat handling, driving, docking a tender, evaluating meteorological conditions, reading navigational maps etc. The course will help young deckhands not only acquire additional skills, but also prepare for the career in navigation should they decide to pursue one.
Day 3: RYA PWC / Jet Ski Course
This one-day course allows to get one a PWC license and thus drive jet ski legally in the Med. Deckhands with PWC/ jet ski license can drive guests or even deliver jet ski course onboard themselves once they get experienced enough and take PWC Instructor course.
Day 4 & 5: Yacht Deckhand training
A lot of candidates come to the industry completely unprepared and with no prior knowledge. To help them gain confidence, understand the role of a deckhand, and be ready for the tasks, Seascope France designed a 2-day course which covers such subjects as code of conduct onboard, ship layout and terminology, work contracts, living in close quarters, cultural understanding, and trains such practical skills as yacht cleaning and maintenance, rust removal, teak cleaning, splicing and ropework etc.
