About the course

The STCW 95 Elementary First Aid course covers the syllabus required by the STCW95 Table A VI/1-3 and provides an introduction to the principles of first aid.

The Elementary First Aid (EFA) course is a combination of both theoretical and practical training. Students learn bandaging methods, how to move and position a patient, and how to improvise with various materials to provide first aid. Additionally students will be taught the treatment of:

  • burns and scalds
  • bleeding
  • shock

There is a very important practical assessment to the course where students are required to correctly carry out resuscitation on a CPR mannequin.

This course is governed by the regulations of STCW78 as amended.

Certification

Upon completion, trainees are issued with MCA-approved STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Elementary First Aid. This certificate will not require revalidation in 5 years' time unless the certificate is required, for example, for Yachtmaster Offshore exam, where EFA certificate must be issued within the last 5 years.

Strongly recommend this course to everyone!

I really enjoyed the EFA course. There was so much to take away from it, a lot of learning and valuable information, but I never felt that we were stuck in a classroom. Ged, the instructor, delivers the course in such a way that you feel like you are a part of some experience. He keeps students engaged throughout the whole course.
I am glad I could take the course and will feel more confident now if I ever have to deal with an emergency. Thank you Ged and the whole Seascope team!
